After some experimentation in the early 20th century with the Turinese inspirations of Rocca, Oddone, and Guerra, Fagnola eventually settled on Pressenda as his favored model, and today he is known best as an exceptional and prolific copyist of Pressenda. While the instruments of the 1920s in are regarded as his best body of work, in general the quality is quite high.

This example, from 1905, is in a remarkably pure state of preservation and has been exceedingly well cared for. It is covered in a rich reddish-brown varnish and features a beautifully figured single piece back. Stained boxwood fittings compliment this violin’s handsome appearance very well. The tone is at once powerful, throaty, and rounded in all registers. We look forward to pairing this remarkable violin with its’ next caretaker.
