The Los Angeles Violin Shop strives to provide world-class instruments and services such as repairs, authentications, and consultations to all members of the stringed instrument community.
Our Story
Los Angeles Violin Shop began with a global vision and a deep passion for stringed instruments. In 2002, founder Owen Lee embarked on his journey by importing violins, violas, cellos, and basses from around the world. Just a year later, in 2003, he officially established the business as Universal Musical Instrument Wholesale Company.
As our expertise and dedication to the craft grew, we took a major step forward in 2011 by opening a dedicated violin workshop in Downtown Los Angeles. This milestone also marked the launch of our handcrafted instrument line, the Owens & Parkley workshop brand.
In 2014, we moved to our current location at 3350 West Olympic Boulevard and rebranded as Los Angeles Violin Shop — a name that reflects our commitment to quality, service, and the vibrant musical community we serve.
Now, building on this legacy, we are proud to announce the upcoming opening of LA Fine Violins, our new flagship location in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. Just steps from Disney Hall, LA Fine Violins will be a destination for rare and fine instruments, bows, and professional services, created for discerning musicians and collectors.
Commitment to Excellence and Community
At Los Angeles Violin Shop, we are always seeking new ways to bring the highest-quality craftsmanship and resources to our local music community. In 2019, we launched the first annual Authenticate LA event, partnering with renowned experts from the Vatelot-Rampal and Cabinet D'Archetiers Experts ateliers in France — including Jean-Jacques Rampal, Jonathan Marolle, Yannick Le Canu, and Sylvain Bigot — to offer internationally respected certification and authentication services right here in Los Angeles. We proudly brought the event back in 2020 and look forward to continuing it for years to come.
Our commitment to restoration began in 2008, when Owen Lee, through his strong relationships with respected violin shop owners across the country, recognized a need for high-quality restoration services for instruments made by third parties. In response, LAVS began offering professional restoration and repair, becoming a trusted resource for the LA music community.
