Violin Labeled Gigli Romanus 1762
While this fine violin is labeled "Giulio Cesare Gigli, it is in our opinion, the work of a German craftsman c. early 19th century. We may not be able to identify the craftsperson by name but we can appreciate the high level of skill and discipline that went into this violin's construction. It is covered in a rich brown to golden varnish and it's patina alludes to years of good service and music-making. It is in a very good state of health overall. A bright and silvery upper register give way to a middle register with plenty of support and color and the lower register is powerful and even. This would be an appropriate violin for a profesional, devoted amateur, or advancing student. Give us a call at 213-471-2124 to setup an audition or trial of this fantastic violin.
