Violin by Stephen Cournoyer Windham
This violin, crafted in Maine, boasts a rich and powerful tone. Modelled on a del Gesu pattern, it sports a tightly grained top plate and wide curls on it's one-piece back. Layers of rich reddish brown varnish throughout. Plenty of tone color and robust worksmanship make this an instrument one can rely on on all musical settings.
Stephen Cournoyer stumbled into instrument making while he transitioned from electric bass to upright bass. His interest was piqued in how these string instruments were built and enrolled in a violin making course in Boston. While in violinmaking school, he had met a maker who lived in Maine that was looking for an apprentice. Stephen was looking for opportunities, so it seemed perfect. That's what brought him to Maine - the opportunity to work for an already-established maker.
