Violin by Leandro Bisiach, Milano 1930 "Polo"

Leandro Bisiach studied with Riccardo Antoniazzi before establishing his own business around 1890. His workshop employed numerous makers including Riccardo Antoniazzi’s father, Gaetano, as well as Guiseppe Ornati, Ferdinando Garimberti, and Ignio Sderci.

Although many instruments bearing Bisiach's label can be attributed at least in part by other makers in the shop, his personal work is of a high quality, showing a fine understanding of his classical predecessors.

This example from 1930 has a fully mature and rounded sound as well as a remarkably figured single-piece back and a rich brown and burnished varnish that has been well-worn and patinaed. The tone is colorful and flexible and the instrument offers the player a wonderfully rich palette to explore musical literature in all settings.
