Violin by Charles E Herbrig St. Paul 1955
Delicate Brightness for Professional Players
This violin has an overall bright, refined character with a smooth and delicate tonal texture. Its upper register sings with shimmering brilliance, allowing solo passages to project effortlessly. The middle range maintains this clarity while adding depth and resonance. On the lowest string, the G string, the instrument reveals a textured richness that brings complexity and warmth to its overall voice.
The violin is currently strung with Dominant strings, which complement the instrument’s natural tonal qualities. It is fitted with ornate pegs and an intricately designed tailpiece, adding a touch of elegance to its appearance.
Charles Edward Herbrig (1884 – 1959), son of an organ and violin maker, began his studies of violin making in 1908. He emigrated to the United States and set up his workshop in 1922. Herbig has an intense focus on the neatness of his workmanship and was known to have used an old Italian process during the varnishing stage. This use of the old tradition had a great effect in the appearance of his instruments. Herbig's instruments have been well regarded for their tone by many professional players.
