This viola produces a wood-focused tone quality that is especially evident in the middle to lower registers. The voice is textured and substantial, offering depth and warmth while maintaining a strong, focused presence in the upper range. Fitted with bespoke fittings handmade by the makr, the instrument is finished with understated elegance. It features a honeyed yellow varnish, a two-piece back, and a straight, non-antiqued finish that reflects its relative youth. Made in Cremona, this viola is featured in the the contemporary makers event, La Forma del Suono Exhibition in early 2026.
Hrachya Galstyan is a Cremona-based violin maker and restorer, specializing in concert violins for soloists and professional musicians. Known for tonal richness and meticulous craftsmanship, he has earned prizes in national and international competitions. A graduate in violin performance from the State Conservatory of Armenia, he studied violin making at IPIALL “A. Stradivari” under M° Wanna Zambelli. Since 2005, he has built and restored instruments in his Cremona workshop, collaborating with renowned orchestras and performers.
