Viola by Gustav Naese, Dresden 1894- 16 1/8"

Our research into this enigmatic Viola and its' maker have yielded more questions than answers.
One accounting of Naese's work remarks on his "ordinary worksmanship and tone" while another classifies him as " a very talented violin maker".
Naese may have studied instrument construction and building with his father, Alois.
This Viola displays a lion's head in place of the traditional scroll, as well as floral motifs around the pegbox. It is covered in a rich reddish to brown varnish and it produces a sound that is mature, rich, and colorful.  It also has a remarkable depth of sound and wonderful Viola-presence. This Viola has been expertly setup by our workshop staff and is available for audition and trial. This would be an appropriate instrument for an advanced player or discerning professional.
