Cello by Min Sung Kim, Cremona 2023
Well-Balanced Power for Professional Players
This cello has a broad, bold personality with great projection and a sound weighted with depth and strength. Its voice is expansive and broad, rather than focused, allowing it to fill a space naturally and with ease. The tone is beautifully balanced — neither too bright nor too dark — and the A and D strings are particularly well matched in timber and allow for melodies to be smoothly connected with to one another. Its unique character and versatile, powerful qualities make it an ideal instrument for the soloist, one with the presence and power to carry a performance on its own
Min Sung Kim, born in 1971 in Nonsan, South Korea. He trained in Salt Lake City with Peter Paul Prier and later moved to Italy, graduating in 2003 from IPIALL in Cremona under Primo Pistoni and Alessandro Voltini. He has since worked in his own Cremona workshop near Piazza Risorgimento. His cellos have earned international recognition, including medals and distinctions at the Cremona Triennale, VSA competitions, Pisogne National Competitions, the Manchester Cello Competition, and the China International Violin Making Competition, particularly for tone, workmanship, and setup.
